Logo & artwork

Logo requirements for embroidery

The better the source artwork, the better the embroidery setup. Vector artwork is preferred, but if you don’t have the ideal file, send us the best version you have and our team will assess it.

What should you send us?

AI · EPS · SVG · Vector PDF

Vector artwork gives us clean shapes and lettering to build the embroidery setup from.

High-resolution PNG

A large PNG with a transparent background is usually enough to work from.

Can still be assessed

JPG, JPEG or artwork from another document

Whatever logo file you currently have available — we’ll look at it and tell you where you stand.

Don’t have the right file? Send us what you have.

Our team can assess the artwork and tell you whether it can be used as supplied or needs preparation before embroidery.

Vector artwork

Vector files give us the best starting point.

A vector logo is drawn as shapes and curves rather than a fixed grid of pixels, so it can be scaled to any embroidery size without softening or breaking up. That matters because the same mark might be stitched small on a chest and larger elsewhere, and we want both built from the same clean source.

The usual vector formats are AI, EPS, SVG and vector PDF. If your logo was professionally designed, a vector version may be held by your designer, signage supplier, printer or whoever manages your brand assets.

One thing worth knowing: a vector file is source artwork, not an embroidery file. It cannot be sent straight to an embroidery machine. It is the ideal starting point from which the stitch file is built.

PNG & JPG

High-resolution artwork can often be enough.

If no vector file can be found, a PNG is the next best thing — ideally a large one with a transparent background, so the mark is separated cleanly from whatever sits behind it. A JPG or JPEG can still be assessed and is frequently all an organisation has.

There is no magic number to hit. What matters is simply that the logo is sharp:

Larger and sharper is better

The logo should not look blurred or pixelated

Artwork saved from a website is often too small

An original file beats a screenshot

If what you have isn’t sharp enough to stitch cleanly, we’ll tell you before anything is set up — and in many cases the artwork can be prepared from it.

Embroidery suitability

Some screen designs need adjustment for thread.

Embroidery reproduces your logo physically, in thread. Detail that reads perfectly on a screen or in print doesn’t always survive that translation — particularly at smaller embroidery sizes, and the garment itself plays a part too. These are the characteristics we look at:

Small lettering and taglines

Thin lines

Tight spacing and negative space

Fine or intricate detail

Gradients, shadows and visual effects

Detailed marks reduced to a small embroidery size

None of these means your logo can’t be embroidered. They simply mean the artwork may need assessment or a small adjustment so it reproduces cleanly in thread. We’ll explain what we’d change and why before anything happens — we don’t redraw your brand without your approval.

Colour matching

We match your brand colours in thread.

Thread comes in physical colours from a fixed range rather than the RGB or HEX values on a screen, so we select the closest appropriate thread colour to your brand. Brand guidelines, Pantone references or existing colour specifications make that more accurate — and not having them is no obstacle. Where brand colour references are available, we use them to select the closest appropriate embroidery thread colours and confirm the proposed colours as part of the approval process.

No vector file?

Send us what you have.

Most organisations can’t immediately lay hands on their original logo artwork, and that has never stopped a uniform order. Send a PNG, a JPG, a PDF, artwork pulled from an existing document — whatever you have. We’ll assess it and tell you plainly whether it works as supplied or needs preparing first.

Artwork & digitising

Your logo file and your embroidery file are not the same thing.

You supply

Source artwork

Your logo, as your organisation holds it — vector where possible, otherwise the best raster file available.

We prepare

A digitised embroidery file

A stitch-based machine file built from your artwork, setting stitch type, direction, density and the sequence everything is sewn in.

Logo requirements FAQs

Vector artwork — AI, EPS, SVG or a vector PDF. It scales to any embroidery size without losing definition, so the stitch file can be built accurately for whichever size and garment you need.

Yes. A large PNG with a transparent background is the next best thing to vector, and a JPG can still be assessed — it is often all an organisation has. If the file isn’t sharp enough to stitch cleanly, we’ll tell you before anything is set up.

Send it through. Web images are frequently too small to embroider from directly, but they still let us see the mark, tell you what we’d need, and in many cases prepare the artwork from it.

No. Vector gives the cleanest starting point, but it is not a requirement for placing an order. Send the best file you have and we’ll work from there.

If you have brand guidelines, Pantone references or colour specifications, they make thread matching more accurate. If you don’t, we assess the artwork and select the closest appropriate thread colours, then confirm them with you.

We assess both against the embroidery size you need. Very small lettering can close up in thread, and gradients are interpreted into solid thread colours rather than blends. We’ll show you how it reads and explain anything we’d adjust before production.

No. Your logo file is source artwork. An embroidery machine reads a digitised stitch file, which we prepare from your artwork for embroidery.
